Approximately 45 guests gathered at the well known and historical “Mère Royaume” restaurant to celebrate and AngloINFO Geneva’s 5th Anniversary Party on Friday 24 June 2011.
To make the event more than a cocktail party, guests were invited to participate and to play an active role in an Oxford-Style Debate. The statement put to the floor was: “This House believes that Geneva is neglecting the Anglophone community and shares the Economist’s point of view that life in Geneva is boring”. Four speakers had five minutes each to convince the audience, alternatively for, or against the motion and came up with interesting and amusing viewpoints. After a nice verbal exchange with questions and comments from the participants, both expats and Swiss, the final vote defeated the motion: Geneva is not boring but rather an exciting place to live-in!
Drinks before the debate and a finger food buffet after were followed by the mandatory birthday cake. Guests enjoyed themselves throughout the event and were happy to make new acquaintances. The party in the cosy, quaint restaurant continued late into the evening.
