Curriculum

The programme for students has been carefully adapted from the National curriculum. During this vital period students are expected to acquire the academic skills and understanding necessary for progression onto IGCSE examinations programmes.

Our curriculum has been modified to better enable students to:

All teaching is delivered using multisensory methods, students are then given the opportunity to practice, understand and internalise concepts and skills through a range of Multiple intelligence activities. Students benefit from more creative, varied and meaningful learning activities which allow them to use existing strengths and develop new ones.

History and Geography are delivered through learning units or blocks.
Subject specific skills and content are drawn from the National Curriculum and combined with selected transferable skills. An assignment set at the beginning of each unit, serves as an on going project, requiring the use and improvement of skills through specified content. Students are graded on the processes involved in the production of work as well as final content.

Reading and spelling skills will be assessed and monitored on an individual basis. Improving speed, accuracy and fluency is vital, particularly in reading if students wish to return to external examination programmes offered in mainstream International Schools. Students will be given instruction in writing skills,ie, punctuation, sentence structure, paragraph structure, writing to describe, argue or explain. These skills will then be used in the context of Units in other subjects.

In maths and science students are split by age or ability to enable our specialist teacher to address personal strengths and consolidate weaknesses. Our aim is to give students a solid foundation of basic skills and knowledge.

Art is integrated into teaching and learning methods of the daily curriculum. Our students will also be given the opportunity to participate in ‘atelier’ with local craftsmen and artists.

Sport and outdoor activities are an important aspect of the school. National Curriculum objectives have been used as a framework to incorporate a range of challenging and rewarding activities. Students will have the chance to take part in Kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, horse riding, hiking and expeditions, orienteering, swimming/life saving with experienced and qualified instructors.
