NIST International School
The first and only full, not-for-profit IB World School in Thailand, NIST International School was established in 1992 with the guidance of the United Nations. It now offers all three IB programmes to over 1,500 students of over 50 nationalities.
NIST is governed by the parent-elected Foundation for International Education and was the first school in Thailand to receive triple accreditation through the Council of International Schools (CIS), New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (ONESQA)
Conveniently located in Bangkoks foremost business, diplomatic, residential and shopping district, NIST offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), designed for children from 3 to 12 years of age; the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), designed for children from 11 to 16 years of age; and IB Diploma Programme, designed for students from 16 to 18 years of age. Recognized worldwide for its progressive approach and international scope, the IB programme provides students with critical 21st century skills that align to the demands of the modern workplace. As a leading IB school, NIST consistently outperforms regional and world averages by a large margin.
As part of the IB curriculum, all students are required to take part in community service activities and reflect on their importance. These range from collaboration with external organizations such as Habitat for Humanity to internal, student-initiated projects such as GreeNIST and the Bangkok ServICE Conference. All service activities encourage participants to understand and empathize with others, and take an active role in solving local, national and global issues. Beginning in 2014, NIST also partnered with a small number of other top international schools around the globe to offer the Global Citizen Diploma (GCD). This supplementary qualification assesses graduates leadership, service and community engagement. The GCD enables NIST graduates to tell their unique stories and helps them stand out in the university admissions process.
In addition to its rigorous academics, NIST provides students with other numerous learning opportunities. Due to its diverse student population, NIST boasts an extensive World Languages Programme; by the time they graduate, NIST students are fully multilingual, and able to collaborate with individuals of differing cultures and backgrounds. Students can also choose from over 300 extra-curricular activities that include options in academics, sports and the arts. As one of the founding members of the Southeast Asia Student Activity Conference (SEASAC), the NIST Falcons compete against their peers from other top schools in Southeast Asia, as well as students around the globe. The Falcon athletes and scholars have amassed dozens of national and international championships over the past two decades.
NISTs 25-rai campus encompasses ten buildings that house over 90 classrooms and state-of-the-art facilities. In addition to being completely wireless, its classrooms are equipped with SMART Boards, digital projectors and FrontRow sound systems. Beyond the dedicated, purpose-built Early Years Centre, Elementary Building and Secondary Building, the campus includes a Creative Arts Building, Sports Complex and several multi-purpose halls. The newest addition, The Hub, was partially student-designed and reflects the principles of modern education and learning research. With its expansive theatre, performance studio, recording studio, sports courts, FIFA-standard pitch, library, science labs, counseling lounges, tech centers and much more, the school offers facilities that even rival universities in the region.
Through its stellar academic achievements; engaged, community-driven culture; forward-looking philosophy; and expansive resources, NIST represents the future of education. The school draws upon its active parent community, highly-trained staff and diverse student body to positively impact Thailand and Southeast Asia. With its graduates attending the best universities in the world and going on to become leaders in their communities, NIST International School has become recognized as one of Asias leading learning institutions.
