Hello all, its been a good year and for a change I want to celebrate in style with a champagne dinner on New Year's Eve. Could anybody make some suggestions....I'm looking for good food, wine and an ambiance where my partner will feel relaxed, but also slightly sophisticated! Just read that last bit on an advert for a New Year's Eve dinner in New York....and I don't quite have the budget for that. Any suggestions for a good night in Bangkok?

Have you ever wanted to be in an opera ... participating in the world's most glamorous art form? Have you ever wanted to participate in one of the world's iconic symphonies, Beethoven's Ninth -- source of the European Anthem? Bangkok Opera is still looking for about a dozen more chorus members for its upcoming production of "La Boheme". Although there isn't much chorus work in this opera, it is crucial to have an interesting cross-section of people to represent the wildly arty inhabitants of Paris. The stars of the production are truly world class singers, including soprano Nancy Yuen and tenor Israel Lozano, working with the best of Thailand's own opera stars. You will be working with Darren Royston, the energetic British stage director from RADA who has choreographed Lauren Bacall and done dozens of world-class opera, ballet, and musical productions around the world. The performances of "La Boheme" are on November 25 and 26 and chorus candidates. In October, rehearsals are on Thursdays 7-9. The rehearsal schedule is heavier as we get closer to the performances. If you would like to come to this Thursday's rehearsal, please send an email to email@example.com for instructions as to the location. We are now finalizing the chorus for this event so, if you can't make thus Thursday's rehearsal, please send an email so we can discuss a possible audition. *** Beethoven's Ninth is one of the greatest works of all time -- we all know this -- and the Japanese community knows it very well indeed as in Japan, it is a tradition to perform this symphony at the end of the year. Hundreds of performances take place all over Japan. The Bangkok Opera was asked by the Thai Japanese community to revive this tradition and it is doing so on November 23, with some of the world-class soloists coming for "La Boheme" taking part. This performance is aiming for a minimum chorus of 50 people and so far members of at least six choirs in Bangkok are participating. Rehearsals will take place on Sundays from 6-8, starting this coming Sunday, October 18th. That rehearsal will be at the Bangkok Art and Culture Center, opposite MBK. In order to get into the spirit of this concert, we are looking for serious people willing to work hard in a spirit of friendship and fellowship across national and cultural boundaries. The "Ode to Joy" is part of the cultural heritage of all of us, the Old World and the New. We are aiming to make this a profoundly moving experience for audience and performers. Please come to the first rehearsal at the BACC, October 18th from 6-8 if you wish to take part. If unable to come to the first rehearsal please send an email to one of the following people: Emails in English should go to Richard Henderson at firstname.lastname@example.org, in Japanese to email@example.com, and any other languages to Somtow Sucharitkul at firstname.lastname@example.org.
