Does anyone know anything about the river boats in Bangkok? They always seem to be really busy but I'm nervous getting on one because I don't know where they go, how much they cost and whether they are safe? Any advice welcome.

River boats represent very good value but can be crowded especially at peak times. But they are a very good way of seeing the city and getting around.

There is a description about river boats in our local transport information page which describes how to use a river boat on the Chao Phraya River.

They are generally a very safe form of transport (safer than cars or motorbikes) although accidents have occured in the past.

You can find a link to a map which will show you where the boats will stop on the link above.

I use them all the time, they're excellent!. The cross river ones are only 2 baht!

I went on a river boat tour up to Ayutthaya last year with my parents, they loved it.

I've just got back from a Chao Phraya River cruise which we went on early this evening. It was beautiful, a great way to see the city!
