Visa and Registration in Azerbaijan

Hi Everyone!

It is been a while since I posted my last blog. This make be me realize how much I miss blogging. Glad to be back.

Lately there have been so many changes to visa procedures in Azerbaijan. I feel like not many people are up to date. I am hoping that this blog will shed some light to the new visa procedures for people who are considering traveling to the U.S.

Basically,  if you are visitoring to   you must obtain a visa unless you come from one of the visa exempt countries. Here a link that provides an extensive list of countries that Azerbaijan Republic applies a mutual visa‐free regime.

Citizens of Iran and Turkey can get visa from the airport upon their arrival.

If you don’t see you county’s name on the list, most likely you need a visa to travel to Azerbaijan. You can’t get visa at the airport upon your arrival anymore. You will need to apply for visa at your Azerbaijan Consulate found in Azerbaijan Embassies.

In order to get visa to Azerbaijan;

-Fill out visa application form; visit for more information

-You must have a valid passport

-Two passport photos

-The invitation letter;

  • For business and humanitarian visit- the invitation letter from receiving party along with the copy of the charter and state registration certificate of the company/organization;
  • For personal visit- the invitation letter from Azerbaijani citizen or foreign citizen currently residing in Azerbaijan along with their Azerbaijani ID (şəxsiyyət vəsiqəsi);
  • For leisure – copy of hotel reservation.
-Consular fee (will vary from country to country)
These documents must be submitted to the consulate near you. those traveling from US, please give yourself at least a month for processing time. Although, consulate claims that it takes 10 days to process visa, it does usually takes way longer. You have been warned.
In the case of emergency (death or sickness in the family), with doctor’s note you can get visa at the airport upon arrival. However, not many international airport officials are familiar with this provision. Therefore, they might give you hard time at the airport. But if you must travel and can’t wait for visa, this is an option you might go along with.
Upon your arrival, you have 3 days to register with Azerbaijan Migration Ministry or get ready to pay a hefty fee (300 manat) upon your departure.
You can register via email. Email a filled out application and copy of your passport. The application  and more detailed guidance can be found here;
If you have any questions, please feel free to post your questions.
