Hello, my name is Tracey Edwards, I am 55 years old and am a part time freelance food writer living in the beautiful Poitou Charente. Following a visit to my doctor last July, which was about 8 months ago, I was diagnosed with seriously high blood pressure, borderline type 2 diabetes and very high cholesterol. Not surprising, as I had let my weight creep up to a whopping 17 stone, and was not taking any real form of exercise. This was a recipe for disaster, and also the road to an early death I was very upset and worried, and decided it was time for a change. I started doing some quite intensive research, and came to realise that I could turn things around, just by making small changes to my diet and lifestyle. I did not go down the medication route as most of us do, but thought I would try the natural approach instead, as I didn't want to be dependant on drugs for the rest of my life. I immediately ordered my own blood pressure monitor on line, and also purchased a walking pedometer and an exercise bike. I completely re-invented my food cupboard, and through out all of the nasty salty stuff such as crisps and fat laden snacks. I was astonished to find that within the first 3 weeks of my new eating regime I had managed to get my blood pressure back down to a normal level, and within the next few months was testing negative for type 2 diabetes, and my cholesterol readings were back to normal. I have lost 6 stone in weight, and now feel fitter and healthier than I have since I was in my mid twenties, and feel like I have a new lease of life. My aim is to make people aware of the amazing health benefits of eating certain foods which could have a dramatic impact on your general health and well being. We now live in an age of good food awareness, but sadly not everyone fully understand the facts. I want to share my knowledge of how just by making relatively small changes to your diet, could potentially save your life by warding off, and even reversing some life threatening conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure (hypertension), also known as the silent killer! This could allow a good many people to live there lives with a reduced or zero dependency for prescription medication to control these conditions I hope you enjoy reading my blog, and that you find it interesting and informative. Just remember, its never too late to make a change and start living a longer and healthier life, regardless of age or weight. I have managed to lose 6 stone during the last eight months, and have also got my health back on track. If I can do it, anyone can!
