It is great to know that more help is being made available to women in France who are victims of domestic violence. A new guidance and framework for access to social housing for ‘women victims of violence’ or ‘in great difficulty’ has been issued to the local authorities (prefets). It means they will try to make housing available quickly and smoothly for female victims of domestic violence and single-parent families, and to try avoid the double upheaval of temporary accommodation, which must surely make matters even worse.
Women who are victims of violence can call 39 19 (toll-free) to get recorded information and guidance if necessary. This service is open: 08:00 to 22:00 (Monday to Friday); and 9h to 18h (Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays). Read the Press release with useful links.
Share this information. You never know what goes on behind closed doors and who might need this assistance right now. There are English-speaking support groups who may also be of help – see here for English-speaking Support Groups and our information on support groups throughout France.
