Cannesseries, a new festival dedicated to series comes to Cannes

April 2018 sees the launch of another Cannes festival, Canneseries, running alongside MipTV. This “International Cannes Series Festival” will host an official competition and screenings as well as offering an industry platform and a two-day forum, “In Development”, aimed at connecting producers and creatives with international financial partners, from commissioning editors to agencies and distributors, alongside the usual panels, presentations and meetings.

Labelling itself as “the world’s first festival dedicated to TV series”, Canneseries will run from 4 to 11 April 2018. Supported by the city of Cannes and Reed-MIDEM, the festival will of course be focussing on TV series, with a competition aimed at showcasing the best ten worldwide, under the artistic direction of recently appointed former iTunes head Albin Lewi.

The competition projections are free and will be open to all and available online. The main venue to host the festival will be the Palais des Festivals but screenings will take place in cinemas across town.

If you’re planning on coming to Cannes for Cannesseries, it is worth knowing that accommodation costs can be considerably higher in the town during major events, and some hotels are often fully booked months ahead.
