I have just had a look and I last posted in August…….I apologise for my lack of posts but I do have a fairly valid excuse. At the beginning of September I started a Masters in Mental Health Psychology program and my poor brain has been fried. For the last 12 weeks I have been eating, sleeping and studying. During that time we have also had an influx of visitors, they are like buses we have no one for 6 months then 3 lots turn up one after the other. Don’t get me wrong we love having visitors but this time I have felt guilty as I haven’t been able to make them feel as special as I normally would, as I have been wiped.
Our annual Halloween party was a success and lots of fun, hubby out did himself yet again, not sure how he will top that next year!
We have had the opportunity recently to try out some new restaurants……
We went for Advent brunch at The Adlon it was a Birthday and Christmas treat, the food was amazing and after 3 hours of eating and drinking Champagne I needed to be rolled to the waiting taxi! I went for my 3rd visit to The Daitokai restaurant at the Europa centre, the lunch menu is reasonable and the whole experience of the Chef cooking at your table is amazing. The new venue for White Trash fast food is great, especially the outdoor area but might wait for summer to enjoy that. The Caramel milkshakes are to die for, My SIL and MIL had tattoos designed and completed at the on-site tattoo parlour the artists there are really friendly and talented. After scouring the Ex-Berliner magazine for inspiration we found the Tiki heart cafe/shop in Kreuzeberg, the food was hearty and reasonable and the store is full of very cool clothes and shoes from retro style to band t-shirts. I think thats where my Christmas money is going!
I will try and get a photo for my next post but we now have a Santa clinging to a lit ladder hanging from our balcony, yes very tacky but had to be done.
I have been reflecting on this year as it draws to a close, I have had several new beginnings with setting up my coaching practice and starting the masters program, we have been on several trips to the UK and I have now been to Northern Ireland twice in the last 4 months, only took me 43 years to get there! Southern Ireland is next on my list. I can really see my boys growing both physically and emotionally and I am very proud of them. This has been a great year and very enjoyable cant wait to see what 2015 brings.
This time of year is also Christmas market season, I have already been to several but look forward to sampling the one at Spandau on Thursday. I have been to most of them over the years but never to Spandau. On Saturday we went to a British one at St Georges church in West End, that was fun especially with the Christmas Carol concert in the church. any excuse to drink Glühwein.
In January we are off to Egypt for a week to chase away the Winter Blues and hopefully see some sun. It won’t be hot but will be warmer than here and just a glimpse of the sun will make my January. I really suffer with the grey sky and cold, I am sure genetically I am meant to hibernate at this time of year as I am constantly eating and feeling soooooooo tired. I had a great conversation with my youngest about reincarnation as he believes that past lives have to be human, he had no issues with the concept of reincarnation but drew the line at me insisting that in a previous life I was a bear!!
I still find it strange how it is cheaper to buy certain products in the UK than here in Germany, I have bought several of the boy’s presents online from the UK and even with shipping it is cheaper than here and same with our holiday in January. We actually fly from the UK and even with flights from Berlin to London it was still a lot cheaper and this way we get to spend a day with family to celebrate Christmas/new Year on our way.
Hmmmmm….While I have been gone word press has upgraded and now I am not sure how to upload photos, I will investigate for future blog posts
Until next time and I promise it will be sooner than later……….
