British Christmas Market donates 7,000 Euro for Children's Charity

The Event was organized under the patronage of Honorary Consul Claus-G. Budelmann, MBE, who addressed numerous Hamburg companies to supply items, presents and gifts for the tombola. They did so very generously, and thus contributed to the substantial donation that could be presented to the foundation “Von Anfang an” yesterday at the Berenberg Bank.

British Vice Consul Gwen Cochrane-Jorswieck has organized the Victorian Christmas Market for the 7th time and is very pleased that it is now most popular with the Hamburg residents. She personally selects the stands, guaranteeing not only a high class and very divers Christmas shopping experience, but also collecting growing contributions to the charities from the stand holders. Altogether, the Victorian Christmas Markets since 2007 have contributed more than 38,000 Euro to various local charities.

Both Mr. Claus-G. Budelmann and Ms Gwen Cochrane-Jorswieck expressed their heartfelt thanks to the Director of the hotel Baseler Hof, Mr. Niklaus Kaiser von Rosenburg. The marvellous venue in the historic halls Baseler Hof Säle has certainly added to the success of the fair, and the use of the halls is much appreciated.

The elaborate two-days event could not be managed without the voluntary help of the many British clubs and associations, among them the British Club of Hamburg, The Caledonian Society of Hamburg, The Hamburg Players, AGIWA, the Ladies Luncheon Club, the Anglo Hanseatic Lodge, Bridfas and Linda Struck.

When deciding on a charity, Mr. Claus-G. Budelmann likes to support smaller associations, where the Victorian Christmas Market donation makes a difference. This year, “Von Anfang an” was selected, a foundation offering support and counseling to young families with small babies and children 0 to 3 years. Life with newborn babies can be stressful, especially for young and inexperienced parents. “Von Anfang an” provides support in their counseling office and in various neighborhoods, working closely with local “Elternschule” and doctors.

Ms Beate Cadmus was very glad to receive the paperboard cheque from Mr. Budelmann. The sum will allow “Von Anfang an” to expand their support network further and reach more families.

The Victorian Christmas Market 2014 will be on the 1st Advent weekend (29+30 November) as usual in the Baseler Hof Säle so don’t miss it !
