Today, the Hamburg senate decided how the expected 12 million Euro are to be spent. All the revenue will benefit cultural and tourism projects. From January, 1 every Hamburg tourist will have to pay an extra tax per hotel room.
The Hamburg museums will get the biggest part: 2.5 million Euro. 1.4 are planned for the music life in Hamburg. Some 1.2 million Euro will be provided for festivals.
Part of the money is dedicated to sports events like the Hamburg triathlon, Cyclassics, the Hamburg Marathon and the junior rowing world championship in 2014, and to media events. And some of the revenue will further strengthen the Hamburg tourism marketing, especially abroad, and services for tourists coming to Hamburg.
The tax amounts to 0.5 to 4 Euro per private guest and night, depending on the room price.
