The small open air museum in Volksdorf turns 50 this year. To celebrate the anniversary, on Saturday the district chief Thomas Ritzenhoff will open an exhibition about the foundation and the development of the museum.
The open air museum was founded by the association “De Spieker e.V.”(founded in 1962). The members supported the preservation of three houses of the old Volksdorf and erected four additional buildings. The idea was to give an insight into rural daily life and work at Volksdorf in the 19th and 20th century. The exhibition is open January 15-20 daily from 11:00 to 17:00. Admission is free. Further anniversary events will follow (have a look at the AngloINFO What’s on.)
Outside the exhibition, the grounds of the open air museum can be visited every day except Tuesday from 9:00 to 17:00, now in winter the houses are shown on tours (in German) on Sunday at 15:00.
