Register here. Last month the IRS announced that the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program (“OVDP”) will be closing on September 28, 2018. Taxpayers who wish to join the OVDP need to make complete offshore voluntary disclosures received or postmarked by September 28, 2018. The submissions may not be partial, incomplete, or “placeholder submissions”.
The OVDP, designed for taxpayers whose failure to comply with U.S. tax laws was “willful”, has been in effect in various iterations since 2009. While being “willful” may sound straightforward, it is not. In our upcoming webinar, we will review the following: what it means to be “willful” versus “nonwillful” (and all the shades in between), the current OVDP program, why it is closing, post-OVDP options for regaining tax compliance, the likelihood of harsher penalties post-OVDP, IRS use of FATCA data, passport revocation, and the latest US Embassy trend for visa issuance “proof of US tax compliance” for expatriates.
This webinar is being hosted by Jimmy Sexton, LL.M., Founder and CEO of Esquire Group and Virginia La Torre Jeker J.D., based in Dubai (member of the NY Bar since 1984) and owner of VLJ US Tax Advisory FZE.
There will be a Q&A period at the end of the webinar.
