Ciao Primavera!

I must apologise first for the gap in my posts due first to a family bereavement followed by a visit to my daughter in Singapore.

Anyway, here we are again in a rather wet Umbria ( much the same pattern as everywhere in Europe unfortunately).

The extremely wet and uncharacteristic winter has at least ONE benefit!  Lago Trasimeno, fuller than it has been. since  1988, is looking amazing!!

But today out came the sun and the blue skies and we are all looking towards a beautiful green and colourful spring!

Soon, everyone will be flocking to the Festa Tulipano in Castiglione del Lago.

Strange, but last year I can remember summer arriving on the very Sunday of this festival.  We arrived latish , just after lunch and felt sorry for those who, arriving early, were still wearing all their winter wooly layers!  The temperature really soared that day!

Well, this year there is the usual build up starting from the 8th April with evening entertainment, costme parades and tavernas,  reaching a crescendo on Sunday the 13th with the amazing float parade, street entertainers, bands and, of course flowers everywhere!  Unfortunately, as I understand from the programme, we don’t seem to be having a Palio. What a shame!  It was such fun!

I wonder why it has been axed?  Please don’t let it be health and safety gone mad?? That’s one of the reasons I moved from the UK!!

Well, for those who would like at taste of the proceedings, here are a couple of my videos from last year.

The entry into Castiglione on Sunday 13th April, is €7 which I felt was jolly good value last year. Do go before lunch to enjoy all the bands and entertainment. You can enjoy your own picnic in the grounds of the castle or visit one of the tavernas.
