Top Movies in Holland for 2016 (so far)

With two-thirds of the year now complete, the 2016 box-office numbers in Holland show just how much the Dutch like animated (5 of the top ten) and action (3 of the top ten) films, with a small helping of superheros (2 of the top ten). All of the top movies were from Hollywood studios, with the best performing Dutch film (Rokjesdag) only coming in at #15 year-to-date (compared to 2015 when Michiel de Ruiter was among the top ten films at the Dutch box office) .

The biggest surprise has to be the film in 10th place, Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. Why? Because it boxed out the year’s biggest Hollywood live-action blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War (currently at #11 for 2016). It is also three spots ahead of another of the year’s key superhero movie, Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice (at #13). In the USA, CACW currently ranks #2 at the boxoffice for 2016 while BvS ranks #6.
