Lucha Loco

Go here for:
Casual drinks – Kick back after a hard day’s work and relax.

A Family affair – Looking for somewhere to have a bite as well as a drink? Head on down for a family friendly atmosphere.

$$$ – Higher end of the market

On approach, Lucha Loco looks like a delightful garden bar suitable for drinking the night away. Both the indoor and outdoor area gets very busy with mainly expatriate folk. Cool Mexican themed wrestling posters don the walls.

Personal experience:
A couple of friend’s invited my wife and I for dinner on a Saturday night. They had only previously been for drinks so hadn’t tried the food before. Unfortunately this proved to be a fatal error as the portions were tiny and my meal didn’t even reach me until everyone else had finished theirs.

The staff come across as very friendly and we were seated with all smiles. However, incompetence kicked in when we were ordering. Three of the party ordered the taco whilst I ordered the chicken quesadilla. The waiter should have told us that a single taco wasn’t suitable on its own as a main. They were tiny and overly ‘saucy’. Once those had been wolfed down, I waited a further 20 minutes for my meal but to no avail. I called a staff member over to complain and cancel my order. To his credit he did cancel it with no hesitation, but there was no hint of an apology. I was then presented with the quesadilla about 10 minutes later. I sent it back and there was no verbal fuss, but there were sour faces all round. We called for the bill and were on our way. No goodbyes, apologies or anything from the staff completed the disappointing experience. In terms of drinks, they have an extensive selection with an obvious focus on Mexican alcohol (think Corona, Patron etc.) but everything is horribly overpriced, even by Singapore standards.

All in all, with poor food and poor customer service, it was an evening wasted. It appears others may have had a similar experience judging by the 1* reviews on their Facebook page. Equally, it does also seem to be a favourite of others so do feel free to try Lucha Loco for yourself and form your own opinion.
