Students and teachers at Stamford American International School’s Early Learning Village decorated their school in preparation for the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday with a larger than life dragon. Kindergarten 1 students (ages 5-6), led by art teacher, Ben de Quadrros-Wander, worked together to create a giant mythical dragon using large pieces of paper. Students studied the scale patterns on a fish and recreated their understanding on large paper for the dragon’s body.
“We all know that a classroom filled with children’s work is a wonderful place to be in and also sends a message to the students that their work and learning is valued,” said Stamford American’s Early Years Deputy Principal, Lavesa Devnani. “As a school, we value what students do. We want our young students to feel a sense of pride and belonging when they walk past the corridors and in to open spaces.”
Imagine the look on the children’s faces when they walk past and see their work transform in to a beautiful masterpiece!
The giant dragon is a follow up to the giant Rangoli, also designed by Mr. De Quadrros-Wander and Stamford American’s Kindergarten 1 students, for the Deepavali Holiday in October 2017. Stamford American’s Early Learning Village opened its doors to 18 months to 6-year-old students in August 2017. At Stamford American, our aim is for children to achieve more than they believe they can… academically, socially and as ecologically literate citizens in our culturally diverse world. Our students not only have the opportunity to choose a sought after education pathway to help realize their academic ambitions, they are also provided with life skills reflective of the IB Learner Profile as adaptive, thoughtful and principled young adults, with a fostered inclination to design, innovate, problem solve and communicate.
About Stamford American Early Learning Village:
The Stamford American Early Learning Village is built for purpose and opened its doors in August 2017. Every detail is designed to ensure each child is happy, involved and learning. Located only 2.6km from Stamford’s Woodleigh Lane Campus, this extraordinary new facility offers children aged from 18 months to 6 years old, places and spaces to thrive.
Our brand new Village is built on the simple truth: the environment nurtures the child. Inspired by Reggio Emilia philosophy, our early years’ architectural experts have created an exceptional space for sensorial learning at every turn. Families enjoy the warmth of natural wood timbers and bright airy open spaces, to provide endless opportunities to learn, connect and belong.
As a dedicated Village for the pre-school years, all nationalities are eligible to enjoy this first class international education including Singaporeans for their children up to 6 years.
