Palm oil is used for so many day to day items, be it food, detergent, shampoo and even in chocolate and ice cream 🙁 Makes me reconsider my chocolate addiction…And Ben & Jerry is off my list. (There are websites that list an extensive number of foods/brands using palm oil)
It is used under many names, such as
Vegetable Oil, Vegetable Fat, Palm Kernel, Palm Kernel Oil, Palm Fruit Oil, Palmate, Palmitate, Palmolein, Glyceryl, Stearate, Stearic Acid, Elaeis Guineensis, Palmitic Acid, Palm Stearine, Palmitoyl Oxostearamide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-3, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Kernelate, Sodium Palm Kernelate, Sodium Lauryl Lactylate/Sulphate, Hyrated Palm Glycerides, Etyl Palmitate, Octyl Palmitate, Palmityl Alcohol
Due to raising demands more and more rainforest is destroyed for palm oil plantations:

There is some light on the horizon – a slowly increasing list of companies are agreeing to use sustainable palm oil. Please consider supporting SumOFUs.org in their efforts to protect one world heritage sites in danger, and to help them fight large companies who for their profit destroy large habitats which are crucial for endangered species.
Do check the labels of the goods you buy for palm oil and look for an alternative.
