Hi Chris,

it depends where you are moving to in Brittany! I live in department 22 and usally fish the Nantes/Brest canal, it issuperb with good roach, bream (to 10lbs) perch etc. etc. and if you fish at the weirs it is as good as most Uk rivers as yo can float or even use the feer in the currents.

There are rivers full of good course fish as well (also good wild trout) good lake in Callac,as in most other towns in Brittany.

hello all AI!!

Finding fishing in Brittany is ludicrously easy. From 1st June you can buy a Carte Vacances. This will cost 30€ (around £20). It allows you to fish on any of the waters of one association for 15 consecutive days. For example, the Morlaix association has 100 km of trout rivers including this stretch of the Penzé. Tickets are available from "Au Fil de l'eau" (a tackle shop), 7&9 rue de Brest, 29600 MORLAIX, Finistere. For information and advices concerning fishing in finistère , phone the owner, Philippe Le Maux on 02 98 63 38 80.

best regards,

superman.

There is a superb carp fishing lake in Blavet Valley, near St Nicholas-Des-Eaux.  If you email me I can give you more information.

In case this looks like advertising I have no connection with the lake, just know its great fishing.

Hello Chris
I have a house near Baud. I fish the Blavet usually between St Adrien and Pont Augan.

The I have had roach, perch, bream and one chub (on a spinner last spring).

The bream are mainly upto 4/5 lbs, but I have taken 15 in an hour before breakfast. I have seen people in bivvies staying overnight fishing for carp.

I usually prebait the night before and fish a couple of hours from dawn. Its beautiful in the summer, kingfishers, squirrels, deer....and the occassional fish!

Regards Bob

Hi Shirleyl,

I am of to La trinite/Mer for a weeks holiday for the first week in June, and would like to know if it ok to fish ( with a permit )

I went to the Granite coast last year , but was advised that I could not fish because the season had finished !!

I have fished on the Vendee during the same Months before and after getting a permit it was ok to fish.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated,

Kind regards,

Joe Hayes.

Apparently Carp in excess of 70 lb are the norm in the lake at Jugon Les Lacs.

Jugon les Lacs is situated between Dinan & Lamballe. I lived on the side of the lake for two years. The Brits that fish their do not publicise it and keep it to them selves. River Arguenon (flowing out) and another flowing in are full of decent size rainbow. Caught a couple last week. I have a stretch of about 500 metres running through my land.

Happy fishing!!!

You will need to buy a "permis de peche" this will cover you to fish all waterways & public lakes (with a few exceptions like Reguiny village lake in the Morbihan, which is stocked with Carp and you need to get a day/week ticket from the mairie) this will cost you around 70€ for the year/departement.

Anyone who owns land bordering a watercourse has to except fishermen on a 3m strip along the same, it is down to the fisherman to respect peoples privacy and not enter private gardens. Also you can not fish within 50m of a weir or lock, so don't get to close to those watermills!

Concerning lakes, most communes have one, varying in size from 1/4 acre to 100 acres, in most cases you can fish them with just the normal license. If not they will have a sign up and then you will have to get a ticket from the "Mairie".

If a lake is fed via a stream/river then you can fish it with a normal license, but obviously if fenced of it is best to consider it private, unless you wish to get into an argument over the legal side with the owners!

River fishing: Rivers are broken down in to three catorgories, 1st, 2nd & Salmon. 2nd class rivers (Blavet, Nantes-Brest Canal, etc) can be fished with 4 rods. 1st class (usually all the tributaries of the larger) can only be fished with 1 rod. If it is a Salmon river you can still fish it with 1 rod, but if you go tackled up for Salmon then you will need an additional stamp.

You can only fish between 30mns before sunrise to 30mns after sunset, except for certain lakes and streches of river where night fishing for carp is permitted.

Hope this helps!
