I'm considering making the move to France and starting to look at the best places to find homes. Found a great french property listing website that cuts out the expensive french estate agents, worth checking out if your considering purchasing a place :) easyfrenchlife (.) com With the Pound strong against the Euro, it seems like a great time to start a new life in France! Any other sites you can recommend, it would be great to hear!
In the interest of better and more fun forums, and life in general, here is another participation thread to help make the site more fun for people to visit; The idea being that the more people visit, the more people will use the site, and the more interesting it will become. Do remember though, that there are not a million members on this forum as yet,so it may take time to pick up steam. This game is a very simple one and all you have to do is through word association, link the first word that comes into your mind with the word waiting for you. so thats it,as long as some one has posted, then you can post another.I will give you the starting word-Productivity
As I could not contact AngloInfo to chase the scammers out of this site, I thought I would write something about it somewhere on the website. Beware ! I fell for the same scam when I was in Australia, as the scammers got hold of the whole "car" section of gumtree.com.au, and lost quite a bit of money... here is the scam : - You advertise something to sell (anything, for any price) - Someone with a very english name, and english email address contacts you, with a very english email (nothing gives away they are actually in the Philliphines!) : usually saying, IS YOUR XXXXXX STILL FOR SALE ? - You reply yes - They email you back explaining HOW THEY ARE IN ANOTHER COUNTRY, AND THEY NEED TO GO THROUGH A SHIPPING COMPANY. They will want to pay by CHEQUE, PAYPAL, BANK TRANSFER... anything but cash. - If you give your details, they will tell you how it doesn't work. But they are ready to pay more to get your item as they really want it. So, they will insist to pay through PAYPAL as it is "secure" (it is not as they harrass you with very believable paypal emails - anyway). - Then, if you agree to paypal. They will tell you how it doesn't work either, but their shipping company is already on their way to you. So, as you have agreed to the sale, you have to pay the shipping company using WESTERN UNION (ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT - anything between £20 - £300). - Then, when the western union is done, they will say there are some additionnal charges..... and then the scam has started. They will send you VERY THREATENING EMAILS FROM PAYPAL OR BANK saying YOU WILL BE TAKEN TO COURT IF YOU DON'T PAY THE REMINDER... very believable. SIGNS NOT TO IGNORE : - email address they use for paypal threats is ".com" (PAYPAL is ALWAYS ".CO.UK") - if you start sending emails demanding further explaination, THEIR ENGLISH IS SHIT ! - NEVER EVER send money with WESTERN UNION That's it, I hope this will save you a great deal of money and embarrassement. Believe me, first and last time I fall for a scam ! Vanessa - 30yold - Burgundy
As well as the fun aspect, it seems that increasing numbers of people are finding they can increase brain functionality by playing memory games, in fact Cambridge Brain Sciences was developed for this very purpose by Dr's Adam Hampshire and Adrian M. Owen at the MRC Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, Cambridge, assisted with a grant from MRC Technology's Development Gap Fund. For anyone who subscribes to the idea that it pays to keep the brain exercised, or just for the fun of playing - careful though, it may prove addictive! – they may care to look at Memneon, just launched on the Apple itunes store site. (This is the link: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/memneon/id427777304?mt=8 ) Some games aren't all they're hyped up to be but this one is well worth a look. Now what was it I came upstairs for??!

Below is a copy of an email I received last week from Roger Gale M.P., and he has given me permission to post it on this site. If you have not been in touch with him before he needs all your details include the name of your M.P. and N.I.#., address and phone #. Write to him c/o The House of Commons. Exportable Benefits Once again, my apologies to those with no further interest in the exportable benefits/DLA/Attendance Allowance/Carer`s Allowance issue: please ignore this communication. In order to bring my records up to date and to allow me to separate out those with a specific and continuing interest (which will enable me to avoid cluttering up other peoples' mailboxes with irrelevant communications) I would be grateful if all of those who are still seeking to claim Current benefits 2. The backdating of benefits or 3. who still have appeals to Tribunal pending or awaiting hearing dates if you would be good enough to let me know. While many have informed me that benefits have been reinstated and paid or that, sadly, claimants are no longer with us, I believe that there are other cases where the status is unclear (particularly where the relevant member of parliament has quite correctly taken over the management of the case). It would help a great deal to get some sense of the scale of the remaining problem before the Welfare Bill completes its stages through parliament as the latter may have an impact upon benefits. Many thanks Roger Thanks for your help. If you have a legitimate claim it is imperative that you get in touch with him AND your own M.P. A Dios, Bolivar.
I have followed the arrival of WAIFS2010 with inerest as a brave woman stated to try and help freely women and men alone in France. She has struggled to give information on the WAIFS 2010 site and has been featured in the press. At the weekend I was looking at the first French article and suggest you all look at the terrible racist remarks from French people who obviously hate having English people here and suggest mayeb you pass on the information to anyone else thinking of moving here in the future. I am frankly shocked having ever had any rcist comments from our French hosts. They seem to have forgotten the good we have doen to update thier old neglected houses and to add to empoyment in many businessses and now times are hard hav once agian shown their true colours. Don't tell me about equality egality and fraternity.I for one wish Maria- Louise well for 2011 and hope she does well and gets a happy new year. She clearly is one brave lady......Here is the link towards the article on Rue89 : http://www.rue89.com/2010/12/19/la-galere-des-anglaises-qui-revaient-de-la-belle-vie-en-france-181389 for everyone who is interested.
Although we now live permanently in France we still own a house in the UK which is lived in by members of our family. Due to our own house moves the buildings insurance renewal reminder did not reach me, I forgot about it, and the cover lapsed.I have been trying to buy insurance for the buildings, but I have run into a problem. None of the UK comparison websites will quote on a property where the proposer is not a UK resident. I do not want to have the paperwork sent to the insured property, and I do not want to give another UK address without telling the insurer the true situation, as that gives them an excuse to invalidate the policy for non-disclosure if I should ever need to make a claim. I do not know why the fact that I live outside the UK should make any difference at all as to my suitability as a policyholder, and I would have thought that there is probably some law or other invented by Brussels which says that they can't so this. But the fact of the matter is, I cannot at the moment find an insurer. For instance, Saga have a panel of underwriters for home insurance but none of them will insure properties where the policyholder is not a resident of the UK. I can't believe I am the only person in this situation. Has anyone any suggestions?
Most stray cat associations and refuges in France are fully occupied helping to alleviate feline suffering. I wonder if you could help us, here in Poitou Charente, by supporting our petition asking for approval by Local Government of Trap-Neuter-Release as the only means of humanely reducing stray cat numbers. If just one Department in France, out of 95, adopts TNR, then a door will be open to the rest of France. Our petition is entitled 'HELP FRANCE BECOME A CAT-FRIENDLY COUNTRY' which we will present to Madame President of the Conseil General of Charente Maritime - Department 17 - France. You can click on the link to our website - http://www.la-protection-des-chats.com - and sign the petition there or you can go direct to the petition by clicking on - http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/help-make-France-a-cat-friendly-country. You will doing a great service for stray cats in France - thank you.
I shall be walking from my current home in the Aude, to the house where I was born, in Blackpool, Lancashire. I plan to take 70 days for the walk and to arrive 70 years, to the day, after I was born. I will be walking an average of 30 kms a day, 6 days a week, for 10 weeks. If anybody wants to follow my planning, preparations, training, and eventually the walk itself (starts on May 15th 2010) my blog address is:www.vicsbigwalk.blogspot.comAny helpful suggestions will be gratefully received.Vic Heaney
Wow, I only just saw the news about Speed Ferries going into administration: http://www.connexionfrance.com/news_articles.php?id=479 Apparently LD Lines are opening a Boulonge/Dover service in July but it will be a standard ferry and will take much longer (and will mostly likely be LD prices). Speed Ferries has saved me so much money, it's a real shame to see them go under.
May I take this opportunity to congratulate Barack Obama and all Americans who voted for him. This is an historical day and America is setting an example to many. I, for one, never believed that America would elect a black president. I was, oh so gloriously, wrong!I have no doubt that this intelligent and cultivated man will prove to be the sort of President that we expect him to be.Thank you George Bush, you were the Democrats biggest asset.Well done America!
