Can anyone tell me of any must see Christmas markets anywhere in the region. Also where can we take the kids to see father Christmas? (I know it's not very Spanish but we're new here and the kids are young).
Hi, There is a christmas Fayre at the pyramid centre above Mercadona in the port of Mazarron this saturday (20th Nov). Father christmas is going to be there as well as lots of side stalss, games, and other attractions. If children want to write a wish list to father christmas then they will get a reply to be collected later.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for all the replies, I'll try and get along to the fayre in Mazarron and keep an eye out for Papa Noel in the shopping centres if I can't.
I know there are famous Christmas markets in Madrid, Barcelona etc but just wondered if there was any smaller ones down here?
Spanish celebrate ''los Reyes''on the 6 Jan, Papa Noel is a newcomer to Spain.....Most families however recognise Papa Noel as a symbol of Christmas to many, but as Spain is a significantly Catholic Country navidad is more of a family celebration,of getting together, especially noche buena(christmas eve) ,(noche viejo)new years eve, and los reyes,(6 jan)....
In cartagena on 5 January they have a parade in the evening, where the 3 kings arrive in the port and meet the thousands of children waiting to see them, then there is a parade through the city where they distribute gifts and sweets to the vast crowds eagerly waiting to see them. Also in the calle San francisco(i think thats the name) , I,myself have been fortunate to be on the boat that brings the kings in to the port on several occassions and its a great event to come and see!!
And all through the festive season is a 'Belen' a large carefully constructed nativity scene , which is absolutely worth a look.
Felices Fiestas a todos !!
I made a typing error **
The large nativity scene is situated in Plaza San Francisco and opens just before christmas,
