We would like to thank everyone across Spain who has supported our campaign to raise funds to Help Haiti by making donations, attending functions and downloading the Prayer for Haiti Charity single in Itunes Her Majesty The Queen has sent her best wishes for the continued success of the Costa del Sol´s fundraising efforts for Haiti. A letter received from Buckingham Palace reads `Her Majesty was interested to learn that the British expatriate community in the Costa del Sol have raised over €20,000 for the Haiti Earthquake Fund... Her Majesty conveys warm good wishes to you and all concerned´. Talk Radio Europe
I found this interesting article on the "News" page here on AngloINFO. Basically if you call 112 they can locate you accurately without you having to speak Spanish. "...will be used to locate callers who dial 112 from their mobile phones, which is the emergency number in the European Union. The Region of Murcia is the first European area to implement the proven technology, which is already deployed across the United States, where it locates more than 60 million emergency calls each year, and has helped to save tens of thousands of lives. A live demonstration of the technology will be conducted by the Emergency Services Department of the Spanish Region of Murcia, and is planned for March 27, 2010 on the Mar Menor lagoon. The demonstration will be witnessed by hundreds of senior government officials and emergency services professionals from 25 countries across the European Union..."Read more: http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/trueposition-successfully-deploys-112-caller,1218479.shtml#ixzz0j6Iosd4v
We're due to move to Spain next June 2011. My youngest daughter would start English reception in that September (she would be 5 in the September). I have read that Spanish children do not start school until 6 and also they tend to hold English children back a year to enable them to catch up with the language. Does anybody have any ideas or experiences, would my daughter start school or still be at nursery for a year?
Is it true that the British Government has withdrawn the disability allowance of all UK citizens who chose to move overseas, including those within the European Union? See the story in the Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/expathealth/6958474/Welfare-handouts-for-expats-Government-should-pay-what-we-are-entitled-to.html
When Headmistress, Gillie Greenwood, heard about the MABS Cancer Support Group’s Race for Life in Los Alcázares, she saw an ideal opportunity for King’s College to have a fun day out and raise money for a very worthy local charity. ‘Team King’s College’ comprised 22 teaching staff, a 6 year old, 2 babies in prams and a dog and every one of them finished the race, raising €1065 for MABS Cancer Support Group. Lyn Baines, Group Co-ordinator for MABS Murcia/Mar Menor said that it was a wonderful achievement and it was lovely to see so many people from King’s College and the great support that they have had from the parents and children, who contributed so much in sponsorship for Team King’s College. Gillie said that they had a wonderful day out and would like to thank all of the teachers, parents and children for their generosity and support for such a good, local cause. We hope that we can repeat the experience next year, with an even bigger team. MABS Murcia/Mar Menor helps all people in this area who are affected by cancer, providing drivers, translators, information leaflets, equipment, a listening ear, or a shoulder to lean on. If you want to volunteer, donate or you need help, you can contact MABS Cancer Support Group on 693 275 779 or visit our website: www.mabsmurcia.com
