Hi All, A little while ago I came up with the idea of teaching kids in the Fuente Alamo and surrounding areas the game of Rugby. Rugby is big in the north of Spain, and all big cities have teams. As a seasoned rugby player I thought I could teach them the basics for free and then feed them into the Cartagena over 14's team, or better still possibly set up our own team. I have been offered free use of a local rugby pitch (yes we do have one in Fuente Alamo) and several kids have shown an interest. My main idea is to get kids away from the TV and Games consoles and give them some good old fashioned exercise. All seemed to be going well, until I needed a spinal operation and so everything has been put on hold for the forseable future which will probably mean next season. Why am I putting this on the forum you might ask. I am trying to find out if there is anyone out there who wants to get involved? In an ideal world a retired coach, but if not a seasoned player like myself would be great. Whilst I am at it, if you have kids of any age who you think would be interested in getting involved please email me. My initial thought is that we do this for free, but it is possible that we may need to charge 1 or 2 euros to cover costs such as rugby balls etc. Please email me at email@example.com or reply to this topic. Many thanks for your time Peter Clarke
Hi All, I am looking into running a 'Beach Boot Camp' in the Los Alcazares area and need some information: Firstly does anyone else do this? I wouldn't like to tread on anybody else's toes. What authority would I have to contact to get permission to use the beach. Do you think there would be any uptake for a Boot Camp? Any other info would be useful! Tks Maria
I live in Blanca and would like to get in touch with anyone who is good at quilting or dress-making, who wouldn't mind giving me a few tips or teaching me some basic skills. I have made a small basic patchwork quilt before and would like to make another, I also have a vintage dress that I want to make some copies of for myself. Please get in touch if you can help - I have chickens, so anyone who is kind enough to help me will get fresh eggs plus I have quite a lot of other interests i'd be willing to share as a skill exchange.
I'm thinking of driving down to Gibraltar for a 2 week holiday so have a couple of questions. Is there a border control and do you need your passport for entry? Are there any restrictions in driving over? What currency do they use? And most importantly, what are the must see/do things whilst there. Any information greatly appreciated.

By Bill Leckie Anyone connected with The Mary Leishman Foundation can say is...has it been a year already? It only seems like yesterday that we were basking in the astonishing hospitality of our Spain's hosts as our fundraising efforts took on a continental flavour. We reckoned we were taking a risk in organising a golf weekend in another country. Our fears were allayed the moment the plane touched down. Twelve months on, everyone involved in last year's Golf For Mary event still talks about what an amazing weekend it was – and the truth is that we were barely back home in not-so-sunny Scotland before the pleas started coming in to sign up for next time round. There wasn't even any point in the Trustees sitting down to decide if we should give it a go again. The reaction of everyone who took part made our minds up for us, so, here we go again, heading back for another fun-packed few days of sport, friendship and charity that no one involved will ever forget. Mary was a terrific woman, a singer, an actress, everyone's favourite 'hostess with the mostest'. She was a wonderful mum to Kate and Jamie and a devoted wife to Jim, one of Scottish football's favourite characters. Back in February 2009, we lost her, a victim of the vicious swine that is cancer. It was a shattering blow to all who knew and loved her and the best way any of us could think to keep her memory alive was to set up a charity in her name. The aim of the Foundation from day one was two-fold: To ease suffering and encourage potential. It's a motto that has helped us help so many, not only in Jim and Mary's home town of Dunfermline but all across Scotland. We've had two glitzy dinner-dances tagged The Ball For Mary, two Celebrity Football Games we call The Match For Mary and now we're ready for the second staging of Golf For Mary. It's ALL for Mary! The support given to her family over the past two years had been quite incredible. Emotionally, it's helped them cope with a death that could have made them cave. Financially? Sometimes we have to pinch ourselves when we look at a fundraising running total of £350,000. It just doesn't seem real, this huge amount of money out of a chat between grieving friends. The generosity we receive never ceases to amaze us. Take last year's golf – we set out thinking we might be lucky to break even, but in the end we cleared a fantastic €15,000! That's down to all of you, our friends in España. You opened you hearts, your doors and – yes – your wallets to us last May and we hope this year you can find a space for us again. The Celebrity Golf Day on Sat 28th May is being hosted for the second year at the beautiful La Peraleja Golf Sucina and is open to all. Like last time, we've been taken aback by the response from celebrities we've asked to take part. Nothing is too much trouble for these guys and their contribution to the enjoyment of so many others is tribute to what Jim Leishman means to them. This year's crop include: European Cup-winning Liverpool pair David Johnson and Jimmy Case Ex-Spurs and Chelsea striker Gordon Durie 1978 World Cup star Joe Harper Irrepressible ex-Manchester United and Wales' midfielder Mickey Thomas Former Scotland manager Craig Brown What a crew THAT is! The fact is, none of this works without you, the Spanish branch of the Mary Leishman Foundation, so all we can say to you as the bags are packed is...get ready to party all over again. Tickets for The Celebrity Golf For Mary Evening Event at Spa Hotel, Torre Pacheco on Sat 28th May cost 50€ to include cocktail on arrival followed by a 4 course meal including beer & wine and a night of entertainment 6.15 pm until late. Mary Leishman Foundation also has a special rate to stay at the Spa Torre Pacheco Hotel on Sat 28th May 75€ per room incl breakfast and late check out. For tickets or to book accommodation contact Shirley Graham 634 312 512 or email@example.com
Last week, 30 HAH volunteers and friends took the plunge at the Serena hotel pool and spa in Los Alcazares. Three hours of splashing about in the pool and enjoying the other facilities such as the sauna and steam room was arranged with Rosa (Spa manageress), at a fraction of the normal cost. Katie Lewis and Maggie Rimmer, two HAH volunteers arranged this non profit making event for the volunteers as they thought it would be good to have some relaxing time together for the team. Although there are lots of other facilities, including a fully equipped gym, we thought it would be fun just to chill out after a busy few weeks, said Maggie. Feeling suitably refreshed and exfoliated the team headed off to Fuegos restaurant in Los Urrutias for one of their special 2 course meals. Lesley, the founder of HAH said it was a great way to spend some time relaxing with the team, and thanked Rosa, Maggie and Katie for making all the arrangements. We are so busy looking after our clients and raising funds that we don’t always make enough time to sit back and just chat, and we certainly hope to be able to do this again in the near future, she added. If you would be interested in joining our team of ‘active volunteers’ offering a little time to those struggling to cope, please call Jackie on 968 575 231. Our nurse practitioner will be available to discuss your health issues at our monthly ‘free surgery’ at Roda Social club, the next one being on Thursday April 7 at 12.15, or telephone 633 673 034 Mon-Fri 09.30 - 6.00pm if you need some help. If you would like further information on any of our events, visit our website on www.helpathome.es, or for further information email firstname.lastname@example.org.

Hello all, I am coming over to live in Sucina in April and would like to carry on playing golf whilst I am over there. I have been informed however that it is rather pricey over in Spain for golf membership. Could someone please let me know rough costings for a round of golf? Are there special deals for the off peak season or anything like that? I'm not looking to play at top class courses as my habdicap is only 27 but I would like to bring it down. Regards, John

There will be an opportunity for sailing with some of the groups within the Sailing Association Mar Menor (SAMM). It will start at 11.00 am on or near the jetty of Car 'Infanta Cristina' at Los Narejos. The dingy 'Shoestring' group will be out in their three dinghies. The Catamaran 'CAT' group have been testing their new engine. They will be looking for good weather to sail the CAT with one of their skippers and to take anyone with them who is interested. The sailability group have been training to go sailing with physically challenged people from the UK and some parts of Spain on one of their trimaran 'WETA' boats, they are also hoping to take visitors out to experience this type of sailing. The other groups within SAMM will also be represented. The highlight of the day will be the launching of the new RIB recently bought by SAMM as the safety boat to be used in the next series of races starting in March. So hope for good weather and come and join them. For more information go to www.sailingmarmenor.com.
