Sucina Golf Society members are made of stern stuff when it comes to fundraising and, despite an unexpected torrential downpour, they managed to complete 9 of the 18 holes planned at a recent golf tournament, and raised a very impressive 700€ for the Murcia/Mar Menor branch of MABS Cancer Support Group. Dave Williams, Captain and Treasurer of SGS, was delighted to hand over the cheque to MABS director, Lyn Baines, and MABS Care Co-ordinator, Jill Chorley, at the Society’s presentation dinner, held at the newly-opened ‘La Vereda’ restaurant in Sucina. “We know from experience within our own circle of friends what great work MABS Murcia/Mar Menor does and we wanted to give something back to the community.” he said. “It’s a pleasure to meet such a great bunch of people who not only enjoy their sport, but work hard to help others” remarked Lyn. “Having seen some of the members come back that day, dripping from head to foot, I have the utmost respect for their tenacity and kindness and the money that they have raised ensures that we can continue helping people in the Murcia region.” MABS is planning to open a new cancer centre in San Javier in the coming months and preparations of the new premises are well under way. The centre will provide cancer information, treatment and counselling facilities, as well as a new equipment store, which will be self-supporting, with a shop on the same premises. Check on here for updates. MABS Murcia/Mar Menor helps all people in the Murcia/Mar Menor area who are affected by cancer, providing drivers, translators, information leaflets, equipment, a listening ear, or a shoulder to lean on. If you want to volunteer, donate or you need help, you can contact MABS on 693 275 779 or visit our website: www.mabsmurcia.com
