A quick question, does anyone know if pre-nuptial agreements hold water in Cyprus?
Hi DanielI don't see why not. Make sure it's drawn up by a competent lawyer to avoid possibility of loopholes.RgdsNigel
Thanks Nigel. I was concerned that they weren't worth the paper that they were written on (like I'm told they are in the UK). Bit cheeky, but do you have a recommendation for a legal entity that might specialise in this kind of thing?
Hi Daniel, I don't know of any lawyers who've had experience in these matters. I suggest you call a couple of firms on the list of lawyers provided by the British High Commission in Nicosia - the ones that specialise in family law.List at https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/429794/Cyprus_List_of_Lawyers_translators_interpreters.pdfRegards,Nigel
Pre-nups, not the best way to start a marriage, methinks. (Married 45 years).M Gee
I agree - not the most romantic gesture in the world! Nevertheless, I believe it actually sorts the wheat from the chaff. The wheat in this case being genuine love.Congratulations on 45 years, I hope I get there too! :-)
Hi Daniel H. As a general principle, pre-nuptial agreements are valid under Cyprus law.
