Contract Type: Fixed Term

Closing Date: 20th May 2019

Interview Date: TBD

Detailed Description

STFC's UK Liaison Office (UKLO) at CERN provides on-site support for UK scientists, engineers and students visiting CERN, as well as liaison with relevant CERN administration. The head of the UKLO is due to return to the US, and STFC seeks a suitably qualified replacement. This is a high-profile, responsible position, which offers interesting challenges in a stimulating environment and the opportunity to make an important contribution to UK particle physics at CERN.

The UKLO consists of the head and two other staff based at CERN. The UKLO runs a large property portfolio for the use of long-term and short term visitors to CERN. Practical support is provided for visitors and a large numbers of UK students who spend a portion of their PhD studentships at CERN. The UKLO is the primary interface for arranging monetary transfers between STFC and CERN, the administrative interface for all UK Universities with involvement at CERN, and is frequently contacted by UK visitors to CERN.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the UKLO staff and the work of the office. S/he should have experience of management and working in a team, and should be fluent in English and competent in French. A good general knowledge of financial procedures, policies and practices would be an advantage. The demands on the UKLO and its head are varied and occasionally pressured: the successful candidate must be able to deal calmly with pressure and prioritise appropriately. S/he will also be able to interact effectively with a wide range of people from university professors to young students. Experience of living and working in Europe is desirable.

Please note that the post holder will be employed by the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). STFC terms and conditions for employees on attachment overseas apply.
