In my private counselling practice I integrate a number of different methods and adapt to what works best for the client, providing a safe, mindful, non-judgmental space to develop and explore new skills, ways of being, and relating to others and oneself. As I focus on the present, the here and now, it is not always necessary to delve into past history in order to realise a change. However, I do not lose sight of the fact that at times the past is present in our here and now if certain issues/events remain unresolved.
I incorporate in my practice the Somatic Experiencing (SE) method developed by Dr. Peter Levine, author of Waking the Tiger and In an Unspoken Voice. This is a gentle, holistic, integrative approach which includes an awareness of the body’s felt sense. A mind-body approach, effective for treating the effects of trauma, stress, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, PTSD, psychosomatic symptoms and/or fears resulting from a traumatic accident, illness, or medical procedures, this method can help a person to restore their innate self-regulation, sense of relaxation, balance and wholeness, increase resiliency and engagement with life. I also work with clients experiencing relational/family difficulties, illness, grief/loss, work/life challenges and transitions, or seeking support with fertility treatments, or parenting challenges.
