The Gotthard Pass [San Gottardo] is a high pass between the end of the Lake of Luzern [basically] via Altdorf, running through to the Italian part of Switzerland, the Ticino: one can either journey over the top of the Pass, but not until the end of May, or alternatively travel through the 17 kms tunnel from Göschenen to Airolo - it's free, but sometimes heavily congested with lorries and especially at peak times such as school holidays. To travel through the tunnel is free [as long as you already have the Vignette costing CHF40.-- which is obligatory when travelling on most Swiss motorways]. If you need any further information, please feel free to contact us.
