What's this called in German and can you buy it here?
you can translate it literally: It's Hüttenkäse, and you get it everywhere in the supermarket (food section :-)
Funny as I'd never seen it. Perhaps it's in a different package to what I've been used to. Still, with your help mrsonella, I'm going to be eating cottage cheese and pineapple chunks again - wooohooooo! :-)
It's not quite the same as in the UK. To be honest, I prefer the German version as it's not as watery.
