Les Elfes Winter & Summer Camps are running since 1987 and are located in Verbier, in the Swiss Alps. In a fun and international environment, students will discover new sports and culture, improve languages and make memories that will last a life time!

Why Winter?

Nestled on a sunny plateau deep in the Alps, Verbier has the quaint feel of a traditional Swiss Village. Snow-covered streets scattered with delightful wooden chalets, exquisite restaurants and high-end snowsports shops. Despite it’s small feel Verbier maintains the exhilarating vibe of an International hub packed with skiers from the neighbouring Italian and French resorts and tourists from around the world.

Verbier’s 4 Vallées Ski Area is the largest lift-linked ski domain in Switzerland with almost 100 lifts accessing over 400km of pistes and a beginner ski area right in the village which means optimum safety and convenience for first-time skiers. For returning skiers and snowboarders Verbier offers fast progression into an expansive and varied resort. Snow on the pistes is guaranteed from late November to the end of April and the spectacular scenery from the top of the ski area – Mont Fort, at 3,330m – boasts views as far as the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.

Verbier is also home to a range of thrilling international spectator events including: Xtreme Verbier (the finals of the FreeRide World Tour competition), the Verbier High Five (at which amateur skiers compete alongside world champions) and the Patrouille des Glaciers (a gruelling ski touring race from Zermatt).

Consistently named as being one of the top ski resorts in Europe, Verbier has been a playground for winter sports for many years with a combination of stunning scenery and exciting terrain. The jewel in the crown of the 4 Valleys ski rea, one of the largest in Switzerland. With a network of more than 400km, including the iconic Mt Fort at 3330m with views of the Matterhorn and Mt Blanc, there is no shortage of slopes to choose from for all levels.  Surely there can be no better location to take part in a world class Winter Camp, which is exactly what the students can be part of. We offer programs from the beginning of December to the end of April, structured around skiing and snowboarding during the day, followed by après ski and evening activities.  As in Summer, languages can be chosen and integrated with the program so students can benefit from both winter sports and academic study.

Activities

The main activities Les Elfes offer in Winter are Skiing and Snowboarding. Our team of fully qualified instructors teach the students in groups of up to 7, with full day instruction, with lunch on the mountain and breaks during the day. Ski Touring can also be chosen, for those who want to try a different discipline and softer activities such as sledging and snowshoeing.  Each student meets his/her instructor in the morning and together as a group our drivers take the groups to the slopes, the campus is a two minute drive from either the main lift stations at Medran or Savolyres, or the beginner area at Les Esserts. The students will spend all morning with their instructor, meeting with other groups at lunch and then continue into the afternoon before being picked up again and taken back to the chalets. Whether skiing for the first time, or a seasoned enthusiast, our team of instructors will make sure there is a good level of progression, and above all fun for all throughout the day.

Ski Lessons

The main purpose of course is to learn and progress, our team will make sure of this. From total beginners some of whom have never seen snow, to expert skiers, there is fun and learning to be had for everyone. Lessons take place in the morning, taking advantage of the good snow conditions, with more of a free ski attitude after lunches, with the groups under full supervision form the instructors making sure the FIS rules are adhered to and understood.  Groups are never taken off piste, but have access to itinerary runs such as the famous Mt Fort, or Tortin and Chasseuers, providing variable terrain and powder snow for those expert skiers and boarders.

 Levels Progression

For beginners, being introduced to equipment specific to skiing or boarding, and learning the basic techniques, of sliding, turning and of course stopping! Skiers should then be making wedge or plough turns, and maybe going into parallel truns, snowboarders can nearly link tunrs from heel to toe edge.  Students on the beginner slopes are given the skills and confidence needed to progress to the next level of terrain, identifying the importance of control of speed and piste etiquette.

For Intermediates the obvious change is the terrain, and the types of slopes, no longer on the enclosed  beginner areas of Les Esserts,  the blue pistes of La Chaux and Lac Des Vaux open up a totally new. Beginner Intermediates will learn how to link turns of varying sizes, using control of speed ( mostly ) by adjusting line. Progressing to Higher Intermediates,  linking turns at moderate speed as a skier parallel, and for snowboarders are tending to skid less with the tail of the board following the tip.

Advanced Skiers and Snowboarders, the students will be comfortable and confident, with introduction into moguls and variable terrain, or powder snow. They will learn how to explore new techniques for use in different areas such as freestyle, steeps, powder, and continue to fine tune, balance and versatility and how to manage in high speed, short medium and long radius carve turns.

You can ski or snowboard more or less anywhere in Verbier, and all over the world. The mountain is yours!
