Taxis in Buenos Aires

Information on taxis and remises in Buenos Aires; how to hail a cab and how to find a taxi in Buenos Aires City and Greater Buenos Aires...

City taxis

City taxis are privately owned and are available 24 hours a day. They are black with yellow roofs, and their license number is painted inside a yellow circle on the front doors.

Some owners work as part of a fleet, where each cab communicates by radio with headquarters. They are called Radio Taxis and they show the name of the fleet (for example, Rapi Taxi). Cabs which are available for service have a red light which is lit up in the front window with the word Libre (available) in white.

Radio Taxis can also be requested by phone. Simply call one of the Radio Taxi companies.

The fare is shown in Argentinian pesos and combines a fixed start up fee plus an amount for the distance traveled (both shown on the digital taxi meter). In some cases, there is an extra charge for luggage and/or crossing the Av. General Paz to go into the suburbs of Great Buenos Aires.

Taxis in Greater Buenos Aires (suburbs):

Taxis in most municipalities are painted white. Their identification and license number is painted on the doors in pale blue.

Taxis in the suburbs can only be flagged at authorized stops, which are generally found in bus and train terminals or shopping centers.

The fare is shown in Argentinian pesos and combines a fixed start up fee plus an amount for the distance traveled (both shown on the digital taxi meter).

Most taxi drivers do not work after midnight, and they start in the morning at about 07:00.

Remises taxis

Remises provide a similar service to Radio Taxis, although the cars have no exterior identification. To order a Remises taxi, call one of the private offices in Buenos Aires city and Great Buenos Aires.

Fares are similar to those of other taxis, but the fare is calculated on the basis of distance multiplied by a fixed rate per kilometer. Passengers should first ask for an estimate for their journey.

In the main areas of Buenos Aires and its suburbs, most Remises offer a 24-hour service.
