Learning to Drive in Australia

The regulations affecting teenage drivers in Australia...

The minimum age in Australia to obtain a driving licence (for a vehicle or motorbike) is 17 or 18 years old, depending on the state or territory. Driving licences must be carried at all times when driving and shown to officials on demand. In some states, learner drivers can apply for learner ('L') plates at the age of 16.

Each state requires the driver to pass a knowledge test, eyesight test and practical driving test in order to obtain an unrestricted licence.
