Skiing is possible in the winter months in southern New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. There are several well developed downhill skiing resorts including Perisher and Thredbo in New South Wales and Falls Creek and Mount Beauty in Victoria.
The oldest and highest resort in Australia is Charlotte Pass ski resort in the Snowy Mountains. It is completely snowbound during the winter months and is only accessible by over-snow transport.

The closest skiing to Melbourne is at Lake Mountain. The resort is very family friendly and has one of the largest networks of cross country skiing in the world.

Ski touring and cross country skiing are popular in Alpine National Park, Tasmanian Wilderness and Kosciuszko National Park.
