Pet Registration

All dogs and cats older than three months must be registered with the City of Melbourne. Animals must be microchipped before applying for registration. Once the dog or cat is registered it receives a registration tag, which must be fastened to its collar.

Registration renewal must take place before 10 April each year.

Dog owners in Melbourne are required to clean up after their dog. Failure to do this can lead to a large fine.

Lost and Found Animals

Animals found in the City of Melbourne are taken to the pound at the Lost Dogs Home for eight days.
