Business Structures

Find out about business structures in Australia...

There are four main types of business structure to choose from:

  1. A limited company.
  2. A partnership.
  3. A franchise.
  4. A sole proprietorship, which can be public or private (proprietary).

Because of the ever-changing and complex Australian tax laws, you should consult a tax expert before deciding on the best business structure. Although franchises have a higher success rate than other start-up businesses, it can take years to make a profit (often the only people to get rich are the franchise companies). A Franchisees Guide can be obtained from The Franchise Council of Australia (FCA).
