State/Territory Sponsored Business Owner (Provisional) Category - Subclass 163

This is a four year provisional visa for those intending to establish a business in Australia.

Terms and conditions

Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least four years successful business experience in a senior role or within a business that they have an ownership interest. The business must have had a turnover of at least $300,000 in two out of the last four years and all business and personal assets must have a net value of over $500,000.

They must be able to demonstrate that they have adequate finance to establish a new business while being financially supported and must present a well-researched business plan. They must obtain sponsorship from an appropriate regional authority and be less than 55 years old. The business proposal must offer benefit to Australia and once established the owner can apply for a permanent visa.

Business Owner (Provisional) Category - Subclass 160

This is a four year provisional visa for those intending to establish a business in Australia.

Terms and conditions

Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least four years successful business experience in a senior role or within a business that they have an ownership interest. The business must have had a turnover of at least $500,000 in two out of the last four years and all business and personal assets must have a net value of over $800,000 with business assets making up $200,000.

They must be able to demonstrate that they have adequate finance to establish a new business while being financially supported and must present a well-researched business plan. They must notify an appropriate regional authority but do not need sponsorship. The applicant must be less than 45 years old. The business proposal must offer benefit to Australia and once established the owner can apply for a permanent visa.

State/Territory Sponsored Investor (Provisional) Category - Subclass 165

This is a four year provisional visa for business owners able to invest $750,000 in Australia.

Terms and conditions

Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least three years successful business management or investments with an ownership of at least 10 percent. Their personal assets must have a net value of over $1,125,000. They must be able to demonstrate a high level of management skill in their business proposal and must obtain sponsorship from an appropriate regional authority and be less than 55 years old. The business or investment proposal must show that the applicant intends to maintain the business in Australia after the initial investment has matured. A permanent visa can then be applied for.

Investor (Provisional) Category - Subclass 162

This is a four year provisional visa for business owners able to invest $1,500,000 in Australia.

Terms and conditions

Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least three years successful business management or investments with an ownership of at least 10 percent. Their personal assets must have a net value of over $2,250,000. They must be able to demonstrate a high level of management skill in their business proposal. They must notify an appropriate regional authority but do not need sponsorship. The applicant must be less than 45 years old. The business or investment proposal must show that the applicant intends to maintain the business in Australia after the initial investment has matured. A permanent visa can then be applied for.

State/Territory Sponsored Senior Executive (Provisional) Category - Subclass 164

This is a four year provisional visa for senior executives who want to establish a new business in Australia.

Terms and conditions

Applicants must be able to propose a business that will be considered to be of exceptional economic benefit by a sponsoring state government and that they have occupied a position in the three highest levels of the management of a major business for at least two of the last four years. The applicant's net assets must be over $500,000 in value and they must be able to demonstrate that they have adequate finance to establish a new business while being financially supported, and must present a well-researched business plan. They must obtain sponsorship from an appropriate regional authority and be less than 55 years old. The business proposal must offer benefit to Australia and once established the owner can apply for a permanent visa.

Senior Executive (Provisional) Category - Subclass 161

This is a four year provisional visa for senior executives who want to establish a new business in Australia.

Terms and conditions

Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have occupied a position in the three highest levels of the management of a major business for at least two of the last four years. The applicant's net assets must be over $800,000 in value and they must be able to demonstrate that they have adequate finance to establish a new business while being financially supported and must present a well-researched business plan. They must notify an appropriate regional authority but do not need sponsorship. The applicant must be less than 45 years old. The business proposal must offer benefit to Australia and once established the owner can apply for a permanent visa.

Business Talent Visa (Permanent) - Subclass 132

This is a permanent residence visa for wealthy business people that intend to create significant business activity and need to be a resident to execute the plan.

Terms and conditions

Applicants must be able to propose a business that will be considered to be of exceptional economic benefit by a sponsoring state government. They must be aged 55 or less and be able to demonstrate the following:

  • An annual turnover of $3 million in two of the last four years
  • Net assets of at least $1.5 million, transferable to Australia
  • Business equity worth $400,000

A substantial proposal with detailed research conducted by the applicant must be made for state sponsorship with the total investment amount (including commercial loans) totalling over one million dollars. New jobs must be created and the business plan must be supported with agreements between suppliers and partners, effectively having a business set and ready to begin.
