Moving Pets

Find out how to prepare your dogs, cats and other pet animals for life in Azerbaijan...

Azerbaijan has no restrictions on importing pets into the country. Pet cats, dogs and birds, with the exception of pigeons, can be brought into the country as long as they travel with a veterinarian health certificate. The certificate must have been issued no more than 10 days before the animal travels to Azerbaijan. Pets can enter the country as cargo, via a plane's cabin or as checked baggage.

Pet dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies at least 30 days prior to entering the country and no more than 12 months before travel. There are no other vaccination requirements. A complete vaccination history for the animal is also needed.

International Health Certificate

A cat or dog being brought into Azerbaijan must have a complete international health certificate. It must have been filled in and certified by a fully accredited veterinarian in the animal's home country. They will certify the pet's current health status and do all the required tests. The certificate must state that the animal is free of parasites and diseases which are transmissible to humans.

Pet animals are not required to have a microchip fitted to enter Azerbaijan. However, choosing to do so increases the animal's safety once in the country. If transiting in other countries before arrival in Azerbaijan it is advisable to check if a microchip is required.

Arrival in Azerbaijan

Upon entering Azerbaijan, at Baku airport, the pet and its documentation are checked by the airports veterinarian. Paperwork completed in English is accepted. Animals which are healthy and have all the required paperwork are not quarantined.
