Azerbaiijan’s road infrastructure is relatively poor so accidents and collisions occur frequently. Azerbaijani drivers are known for their defensive and sometimes dangerous driving and minor collisions are common.
Anyone involved in a car accident in Azerbaijan should stay at the scene. In the event of a serious accident, or one requiring the assistance of police, the following telephone numbers should be used:
- Police – Tel: 102
- Ambulance – Tel: 103
- First aid - Tel: 112
It is a good idea to take photographs of the damage immediately, if possible.
Making a Claim
In the event of a seroius car accident, the driver is given a report from the police at the scene of the accident. This report is then needed by the insurance company for their assessment.
The maximum amount paid out for vehicle insurance by law is AZN 55.000, while the maximum amount paid for third parties’ car repairs is AZN 5.000 and for medical bills, AZN 5.000.
