Understand the process involved when registering as a small business or sole trader in Brazil...
The registration for the Individual Entrepreneur can be done completely free via the Internet. The process takes no more than 30 minutes.
- Use the government website Portal do Empreendedor (in Portuguese)
Step-by-step registration
- Before registering, check the acceptability of the business with SEBRAE
- Use the Portal do Empreendedor to check that the chosen name of the business is not already in use
Once the company name is approved, enter personal details and declare to obey the legislation. A CNPJ is generated automatically.
A document will then be generated. It is obligatory that this be printed, signed and enclosed with a photocopy of the applicant's CPF and sent to the Juntas Comerciais within 60 days.
