Events and Festivals on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast

The Black Sea Coast region has a busy programme of festivals (including music, arts and film festivals) throughout the year.


Flora Burgas: International flower exhibition in the Sea Garden every year in May and September. Hundreds of flowers are on display in specially designed pavilions.

International Folklore Festival: Since 1965 Burgas has hosted this festival which features parades, Bulgarian folk music concerts, traditional Bulgarian dance, exhibitions of traditional objects and folk crafts workshops. The event takes place in August.

Spirit of Burgas: International music festival in August with performances by some of the top Bulgarian and international musicians. The festival features a wide range of music styles and takes place on the Central Beach on six different stages.


Apollonia Arts Festival: Annual festival taking place in August and September and featuring a number of performing arts, literature events and exhibitions. Events take place at a number of venues including the Archaeological Museum and the Apollonia Amphitheatre.


Sea and Memories: International music festival held annually in May. The festival presents popular music from Bulgaria and also from other countries. As the name of the festival suggests, songs are usually on the theme of the sea, love and on those who have dedicated their life to the sea.

Varna Summer: International summer festival taking place in June and July. The festival includes opera, an international ballet competition (every other year), jazz, choir and classical music concerts. Events take place in the outdoor theatre, Park Primorski and in the Festival and Congress Centre, ul Slivnitsa.

Love is Folly: International festival of romantic films taking place in September, with films competing for the Golden Aphrodita Award. The festival takes place in the Festival and Congress Centre and is open to the public.

Varna International Jazz Festival: The biggest jazz festival in Bulgaria takes place every August. Musicians from Europe as well as from the Black Sea Coast and the rest of Bulgaria perform for three days at the Archaeological Museum. Admission is free.


The Day of Dobrich: Celebrated every year on 25 September since 1990 to mark the date of the reunification of South Dobrudzha with Bulgaria. On this date the municipality was given its former name, Dobrich. Events during the day include a pop rock marathon, concerts, a ceremonial meeting of the Municipal Council and the announcement of honorary citizens of Dobrich.
