Pets and Animals in Bulgaria

Information on owning and caring for cats, dogs and other pet animals in Bulgaria, plus details about how to register an animal and recommended vaccinations...

Pet dogs must be registered at the local Municipality and a small licence fee must be paid. To register an animal, the owner presents the animal's documentation (proof of vaccinations and identification by microchip) at the Municipal office. If a stray dog is adopted, first take it to the vet for a check up and to be vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and for the documentation to be drawn up; then register it at the local Municipality.

There is no maximum number of dogs or cats allowed per household, whereas one person may only own one cow and three horses.
