Airports in Shanghai

Information on airports in Shanghai: access, parking and airport facilities...

Shanghai has two major airports, Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA). While both handle international flights, Hongqiao’s primary service is domestic flights and travel within East Asia.

Built in 1999, Pudong International Airport is about 30 Km east of the city centre and the older, recently renovated Hongqiao International Airport is about 13 Km west of the city centre. About 20 airlines serve Hongqiao while more than 40 airlines serve Pudong.

Access to the Airports

Both airports are easily accessible by public transport. The metro line 2 runs between both airports. Hongqiao Airport is also directly accessible by line 10. A high speed train called the Maglev runs between Longyang Road and Pudong Airport.

Transfer between Pudong Airport’s two terminals is available by pedestrian passageways or by shuttle bus. These buses leave every 10 minutes between 06:00 and 21:00 to make the five minute journey between buildings.
