Bogotá has many different types of festivals and events going on throughout the year, from diverse cultural exhibitions, and music events, to commercial and recreational fairs. Find details of some of the main events with links to the websites, (note that most websites are in Spanish only).

Feria Internacional del Libro: Considered one of the most important publishing events in Latin America, which gave Bogotá the title of World Book Capital in 2007. Editors, graphic designers, booksellers, journalists, literary agents, distributors, researchers, personalities and visitors come together in more than 400 cultural events organized in the framework of the fair. The fair takes place in April and May.

Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro: Bogotá is home to the world's largest theatre festival with this festival, which showcases theatre companies and brings in spectators from all over the globe. It features paid for and free performances of classical theatre, contemporary dance, circus, children's theatre, fiction, comedy, drama and more. The event takes place between March and April at venues throughout the city.

Festival de Cine de Bogotá: Since 1984 this festival rewards new international and Colombian filmmakers. There are various categories within the festival, ranging from documentary to art cinema to animation and works from Spanish and non-Spanish speaking directors, for exhibition and awards. In addition to film screenings, workshops, special exhibitions and conferences are held with special guests. It takes place in movie theatres around the city in September and October.

Eurocine: This festival features European films of all genres and audiences. Drama, comedy, science fiction, documentary, animation, short films and feature films are shown in theatres around the country during a 38 day tour. In Bogotá, the festival takes place in various movie theatres and at the Museum of Modern Art (MAMBO) in April.

Festival Centro: Celebrating the diversity of music in Colombia, Latin America and the world, the programme includes acts from national and international artists. The music festival takes place in April over five days in the colonial neighbourhood of La Candelaria in Zona Centro, with the presentation of more than 40 bands.

Festivales al Parque: The Instituto Distrital de Artes organizes around the city a total of six free entry, open air music festivals, showing a selection of rock, hip-hop, jazz, opera, salsa and Colombian music to thousands of spectators. Each festival has in common a combination of local and international bands and artists, selected through competitions held the previous year.

The six festivals are known as Rock al parque, Hip-hop al parque, Jazz al parque, Opera al parque, Salsa al parque and Colombia al parque. Each festival is supplemented with workshops, exhibitions, music clinics and conference activities. The concerts take place in public parks and venues around the city, and are free and open to the public. The most famous of the events is Rock al Parque, taking place every year in August in Parque Simon Bolivar.

Festival Estereopicnic: An annual three day music and arts festival in April, which has become one of the most important music festivals in Latin America. The event features many genres of music including rock, indie, hip hop and electronic dance, as well as art installations and sculptures. It showcases popular and established national and international artists, as well as emerging and reunited groups. Across the grounds, two stages continuously host live music and there are also flea markets and food fairs. Notable appearances in the past include: Red Hot Chilli Peppers, The Pixies, The Killers, New Order, The Wailers and MGMT.

ARTBO: International art fair bringing together curators, artists, collectors and the general public for four days. It takes place in October.

Corferias is the leading exhibition and fair venue and home to a variety of exhibitions and fairs. Among the most important events are the Book Fair, Fashion Show, Showcase ANATO, Campus Party, Feria de las Colonias, Feria del Hogar, International Fair of Bogota International Auto Show and Expoartesanías.
