Transport in Costa Rica

Getting around the country…

Whether driving a car, riding a bike or using public transport, you’ll need to get around the towns and countryside of Costa Rica. Here’s the information you need regarding the legalities and practicalities of doing just that.

Costa Rica has a relatively underdeveloped transport infrastructure, which is based mainly around its roads. Traveling by bus or car is the most popular option over land as much of the country’s rail network has been destroyed by earthquakes. Domestic flights, served by small planes for up to 40 passengers are another popular and quick way of getting around the country.
