Information on the town markets selling locally grown produce, handmade arts and crafts (lace, ceramics) and a myriad other things...
Note: This page is dedicated to Cypriot markets. Other types of retail services (banks, grocery stores, etc.) provide the same kind of experience as any of their Western European counterparts. However opening hours can vary according to season and, more recently, a nation-wide trial designed to relax the rules on Sunday trading. For more information visit the Opening Hours page.
Markets are an integral part of traditional Mediterranean life. It is the time when local produce is bought into the town to be sold.
Regular markets take place in the larger towns in Cyprus and generally begin early in the morning. The markets have a wide variety of local Cypriot produce on sale, from fresh fruit and spices to the typical Cypriot lace and ceramic jugs and bowls. Costume jewellery, bags and clothing are often also available.
Wickerwork, woven rugs, tourist souvenirs, and home-made jams and canned fruits are commonly sold.
Fresh meat, fish, cheese and sausages are widely available at the markets.
