Information about the work permits available to specific groups in Cyprus…

There are a number of specific work permits available in Cyprus for certain types of employment:


Work permits are available for artists who are to be employed as dancers or musicians. These permits are granted by the Civil Registration and Migration Department and applications should be made through artistic agents. To make an application the following documents are required:

  • Application form M.58.A
  • A copy of the applicant's passport
  • A bank letter to cover possible repatriation expenses. The amount required depends on the home country of the applicant
  • A return ticket
  • An Inland Revenue certificate to prove that the applicant's income tax has been paid

Domestic workers

Under certain conditions Cypriot families can employ foreigners to work as domestic assistants or to help with the care of an elderly person. Applications for a work permit are made by the employing family who have to prove that they meet certain criteria. Applications are made to the Civil Registry and Migration Department through the District Aliens and Immigration Branch of the Police. In order to gain a work permit applicants need the following documents:

  • Application form M.58
  • A copy of the applicant's passport
  • An employment contract which has been stamped by the Revenue Stamps Registrar
  • A bank contract to cover repatriation expenses, valid for six months after the employment contract ends. The amount needed depends on the applicant's country of origin

The Cyprus Web Portal has a contract template for a domestic worker which can be downloaded and signed by employer and employee. This document is recognised by the migration department and the labour ministry.  


A memorandum of understanding was signed in 2002 between the Australian and Cypriot governments. It means that the Cypriot government will issue working holiday visas for up to nine months in a given year to Australian citizens who live in Australia providing the following conditions are met:

  • The applicant's primary aim is to holiday on the island for a specified period of time
  • The applicant is between the ages of 18 and 30 when they apply
  • The applicant does not intend to bring dependent children with them
  • The applicant has a valid passport and return ticket, or the funds to buy one
  • The applicant is in good health and from a sound background
  • The applicant has sufficient money to support themselves with when they first arrive in Cyprus

Australians in possession of a working holiday visa can visit a District Labour Office to get help finding employment in Cyprus.

When they visit they must take the following documents with them:

  • A valid passport
  • All working holiday visa paperwork
  • Original or certified copies of any educational certificates they have earned
