The Kingdom of Denmark is the smallest of the Scandinavian countries and is situated in the north of Europe. It is made up of the country of Denmark along with the autonomous provinces of Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

Denmark has a population of 5.5 million people and its capital city, Copenhagen, has a population of 1.16 million. Danish women can expect to live to 80.5 years old while the life expectancy of Danish men is 76.

The official language of Denmark is Danish although English is a compulsory school subject and German is spoken in some southern areas. Religious freedom is guaranteed in Denmark and the overwhelming religious majority (90 percent) in the country is the Protestant Danish National Church. Islam is the next largest faith with four percent. Denmark has one of the highest proportion of atheists and agnostics to total population in the world.

The Danish flag is a white cross on a red background and is called Dannebrog.

According to the Gallup World Poll in 2010, Denmark is rated the world's happiest country while Transparency International have recognised it as the world's least corrupt.
