Health System in Dubai

Understand what to expect from the medical system in Dubai if you're moving there to live and work or to retire…

As Dubai transitions to a system of compulsory health insurance for all residents and citizens, expatriates are now technically able to access any one of Dubai’s four public hospitals by presenting their private insurance health card. However, as private health services have traditionally been preferred over government services (by those who are privately insured) this is unlikely to become a widespread practice.

There are approximately 30 government-funded and private clinics and hospitals across Dubai. This number does not include the medical services offered by Dubai Health City, a large purpose-built suburb that offers a range of medical services from private providers like the Mayo Clinic.

The Dubai Health Authority’s online health portal can be used to apply for a health card, renew an expiring health card, set appointment reminders or update an address.
