Maternity Leave in Dubai

Maternity leave is governed by law and women are entitled to 45 days leave on full pay if they have been employed by a company for at least a year. The amount reduces to 45 days at half pay for less than a year's service.

What it means for many women is a return to work just a month after giving birth and leaving their newborn with hired help.
In practice, the cost and availability of good quality childcare combined with the short period of leave allowed means that many women stop working once their child is born.

Women who work for the Dubai government sector and the Dubai International Financial Centre are entitled to longer maternity pay and unpaid leave.
